They now seek a senior portfolio manager to join their team. Project finance.
JOB DESCRIPTION WILL INCLUDE BUT NOT BE LIMITED TO:
- You will be required to be a strategic leader within the portfolio team, reporting into and working alongside the head of portfolio;
- You will be responsible for some of the most important decisions in the company’s trading, including pricing, capacity allocation and portfolio measurement. This will require very high levels of analytical understanding (both financial and technical analysis) as well managing the involvement of a wide range of stakeholders, both internal and external;
- You will be required to shape and implement new processes and systems as you help the portfolio team transition from a startup phase to a world class organization operating at scale;
- You will be required to manage a small team of analysts – ensuring the quality of their work and presenting it senior executives – as well as performing your own analysis;
- Pricing:
- You will be required to oversee the bi-annual review and updating of the company’s standard tariffs, including view of forward technology curves, cost to serve, macroeconomic assumptions and other input costs;
- You will be required to assess specific risk/ price tradeoffs in the portfolio;
- You will be required to manage involvement of internal stakeholders in the review and approval process;
- You will be required to present pricing strategy to external stakeholders, esp. investors and lenders;
- You will be required to improve the sophistication of NOAs pricing methodology, aspiring to global best practices in PPA pricing;
- You will be required to coordinate the collection of market intelligence on competitor pricing to assist with benchmarking;
- You will be required to work closely with development to price new products/ features;
- Portfolio reporting (internal and external):
- You will be required to implement and monitor systems to ensure that the data on the portfolio is accurate and up to date;
- You will be required to customise reports for different stakeholders in the business and ensure reports are issued accurately and timeously;
- You will be required to ensure that the external metrics defined in contracts are correctly interpreted in calculations and can pass external audits. Where necessary, manage the process to update contracts to ensure metrics are unambigious;
- You will be required to deliver reports to external stakeholders, including meeting with senior managers at lenders, IPP’s and customers to explain the underlying dynamics driving reports and their implications;
- You will be required to develop, define and implement new metrics and kpi’s on the portfolio that give insight into profitability and risk;
- Capacity allocation process:
- You will be required to work closely with sales team to manage the process whereby capacity is allocated to specific customers through the sales funnel;
- You will be required to develop rules/ guidelines for when capacity can be reserved and what process is followed when reservations need to be changed;
- You will be required to implement a transparent, repeatable process for updating allocations;
- You will be required to support the development of systems / tools to make the capacity allocation process more transparent and dynamic;
- You will be required to work with sales and product development to ensure capacity allocation process is aligned with customer communication;
- Portfolio / sales alignment:
- You will be required to provide input into sales solution designs and specifically impact on the portfolio of large / custom deals;
- You will be required to assess the risk/ price tradeoffs on specific deals;
- You will be required to review customer proposals and contracts / CPPA’s to ensure portfolio risk and terms are adequately reflected and clearly communicated;
- System development:
- You will be required to work with the development team to implement new systems for pricing, capacity allocation and portfolio balancing;
- Portfolio strategy development:
- You will be required to work with the head of portfolio to craft long term strategies for the development of the company’s trading portfolio;
- You will be required to assess long term trends in pricing and technology;
- You will be required to work closely with sales to understand;
- You will be required to stay up to date on the latest regulatory developments in the South African energy sector and incorporate this knowledge portfolio strategy.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
- You have a bachelor’s degree in business at honours level – B.Bus Sc would be good
- You have an MBA or similar advanced degree – this is a plus;
- You have a minimum of 5 years current, relevant experience in conducting complex analytics, both financial and technical, ideally in the energy sector;
- You have experience in working with a portfolio and balancing risk across multiple customers;
- You have a minimum of 2 years’ current, relevant experience in managing other analysts;
- You have experience with the pricing, negotiation and implementation of energy supply agreements;
- You have experience in a trading environment;
- You have comprehensive knowledge of South Africa’s commercial and industrial energy market and regulatory environment.
