Our client is a leading asset manager and specialist investment company which manages the full range of interest bearing and developmental investments in an ethical and sustainable way. The company is dedicated to the development and empowerment of South Africa and its people, with many of their investment offerings geared towards a meaningful difference to their world.

They now seek a business development manager to join their business development team. This is a new role. I need a smart, technically astute self-motivated BDM who is interested in the PE/FI/Credit etc space.

 

JOB DESCRIPTION WILL INCLUDE BUT NOT BE LIMITED TO:

  • You will be required, as part of a team, to represent the company brand while driving sales, servicing existing clients, seeking new markets and opportunities and influencing product development. In addition, the incumbent will build confidence in the company’s through strong client and stakeholder relationships and networks, in order to result in increased assets under management;
  • You will be responsible for establishing the investor relations capability;
  • You will be responsible for raising capital for each product line as per the set targets (with team support);
  • You will be responsible for retaining existing institutional business;
  • You will be responsible for utilising, embedding and managing clear South African client relationship management systems and processes, while ensuring these optimally support the delivery of strategies;
  • You will be responsible for identifying threats to the existing institutional business and driving appropriate actions to retain these assets;
  • You will be responsible for building and maintaining key client and potential client relationships across the institutional segment;
  • You will be responsible for building and maintaining key stakeholder relationships within the company group;
  • You will be responsible for operating, maintaining and improving the client relationship management process.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • You have a post graduate qualification (B.Bus Sc / CFA or part thereof);
  • You have a minimum of 5 years current and relevant experience in the investment industry, with a proven track record in institutional business development;
  • You have investment product knowledge;
  • You have the ability to understand complex legislation and influence future policy development;
  • You have the understanding of investment products, asset classes, funds and structures;
  • You have the ability to manage relationships with a wide range of professionals over a geographically and culturally diverse region;
  • You have the ability to combine a strategic perspective with the need to act quickly when the situation demands;
  • You have strong evidence of the ability to close deals;
  • You have well-established relationships with institutional investors, including pension funds, insurance companies and sovereign wealth funds (and established credibility in the financial services industry in general);
  • You have the ability to operate within a complex organisation while developing and implementing strategies to increase the investor base and drive revenue across multiple complex products;
  • You have the ability to network and present new ideas with confidence to individuals and groups, and to develop the company’s position in external meetings and with senior management;
  • You have diligence in following up on ideas / client intelligence to ensure that the client receives the most appropriate opportunities;
  • You have the ability to give strategic input and advice on feedback from clients / the market on the company’s offering, relative to competitors in this space;
  • You have the ability to write articles and provide relevant commentary;
  • You have the ability to understand that the client life cycle is long so that they can think of long-term sustainable solutions for clients.
