Our client is South Africa’s is a highly successful investment manager with more than R200 billion in assets under management. They offer clients a solution-driven approach designed, implemented and managed by a team of experienced investment professionals with a diverse skill set. They have a long-standing tradition of blending both fundamental and rules-based techniques across all asset classes, with a specialist ability in fixed income strategies.
They now seek a cash portfolio manager to join their team. You will report to the senior portfolio manager: lead – cash solutions.
JOB DESCRIPTION WILL INCLUDE BUT NOT BE LIMITED TO:
- You will be required to work closely with the investment team client relationship managers and administration team to manage, monitor and maintain client portfolios;
- Daily cash management process, which involves:
- You will be required to review cash requirements for the day;
- You will be required to make cash available from various sources (example – move funds from call, perform internal trades, sell out of unit trust holdings, sell assets back to the bank);
- You will be required to ensure trades are captured and authorised in the system timeously and within compliance parameters;
- You will be required to ensure that there are no overdrawn balances;
- Assist with investment decision making process where high levels of liquidity are prevalent and / or good investment opportunities presents itself:
- You will be required to keep abreast of economic and financial developments in the market;
- You will be required to attend meetings with sell-side analysts, economists and issuers;
- You will be required to recommend trade ideas to investment team when identified;
- You will be required to participate in primary auctions and secondary market trades;
- You will be required to ensure Issuer has been approved and appropriate limits set up in CRIMS;
- You will be required to work out fund investment allocations based on various factors such as liquidity, regulatory and mandate limits, fund performance;
- You will be required to send allocation to counterparty;
- You will be required to ensure new instrument has been correctly set up and deal authorized on the system;
- Analysis and management of portfolios:
- You will be required to rank fund yields, check for underperforming funds and implement changes as appropriate;
- You will be required to review fund maturity profiles, rebalance fund if necessary;
- You will be required to review spread buffer charts to identify where there is a need for rebalancing;
- You will be required to maintain a good knowledge of the cash flow behaviours of the various funds and ensure appropriate levels of liquidity are maintained;
- You will be required to assist with construction of charts and graphs as well as providing info for client presentations;
- You will be required to review and confirm fund unit trust prices;
- You will be required to assist with the credit analysis process;
- You will be required to assist with ad hoc client and internal queries;
- You will be required to attend client presentations and present at client presentations as required;
- You will be required to draft economic commentary on a monthly basis;
- You will be required to draft articles related to fixed income topics on an ad-hoc basis;
- Training and compliance:
- You will be required to ensure relevant training requirements specific to regulatory and development matters are adhered to annually;
- You will be required to make sure the CPD programme plan is drafted, signed-off and adhered to annually;
- You will be required to apply fair, transparent and TCF-aligned decision-making in all matters affecting shareholders and clients;
- You will be required to work with clients, financial institutions, sell side analysts, economists and issuers;
- You will be required to be involved in the management of money market and core cash portfolios managed by the company initially, with a possibility to expand the role to the other strategies used in portfolio management.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
- You have a minimum of an undergraduate degree at honours level ;
- You are willing to obtain CFA in the near future and have a level 1 at least, currently;
- You are proficient in advanced Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook;
- You have previous working experience / obtain experience on Fundamental, Charles River, IRESS, Reuters systems.
