The tax team at the company is organised globally, with team members for this role based in UK and Cape Town, covering a wide range of tax matters including corporate tax compliance across multiple jurisdictions.
- You will be responsible for the oversight and management of tax matters across all taxes for the company’s companies and funds globally, spanning three core areas: compliance, risk management and control and advice
- You will be required to lead the tax team and own the company’s relationships with tax authorities, in particular SARS and HMRC;
- You will be required to oversee and manage tax matters across all taxes – including income taxes, VAT / GST, employment taxes, withholding taxes and capital gains taxes – for the company’s companies and funds globally;
- You will be required to ensure companies and funds comply with tax law globally, maintaining an internal tax compliance function and overseeing the work of outsourced compliance agents;
- You will be required to own relationships with tax authorities, leading engagement with SARS and HMRC;
- You will be required to manage tax risk across the business, monitor changes in tax law and practice that could have an impact and build processes to manage and report on tax risk;
- You will be required to advise the business on tax risk management, tax compliance and tax structuring across all aspects of the business;
- You will be required to determine the most appropriate way to provide tax advice to the business, ensuring advice is complete, accurate and understandable and that tax consequences of business proposals are made clear to relevant stakeholders;
- You will be required to lead and develop the tax team, maintaining compliance with the tax-related policies and procedures expected of a listed company;
- You will be required to build a stable, sustainable tax function that operates to a high standard, including staff development and training, governance and management of key person risk.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
- You have significant experience leading a global or multi-jurisdictional tax function, ideally within financial services/investments;
- You have deep technical expertise across corporate tax, withholding tax, VAT / GST, employment taxes and capital gains tax;
- You have direct experience engaging with tax authorities such as HMRC or SARS;
- You can effectively manage third party tax providers to whom tax support has been outsourced;
- You can lead a high-performing team across multiple locations and jurisdictions;
- You have a track record of advising senior stakeholders on complex tax structuring;
- You are comfortable operating within the governance environment of a listed company;
- You take responsibility for your work, have high standards and take pride in doing a good job;
