The investment risk team is a global function with a presence in Cape Town, London, and Luxembourg. Operating as an independent team within the company, they provide rigorous oversight of the firm’s investment strategies through data-driven insights, advanced quantitative techniques and deep portfolio construction expertise. They play a central role in measuring, monitoring and challenging investment approaches across single assets, portfolios / funds, benchmarks, strategies, capabilities and the firm as a whole. Their work is deeply integrated with investment teams, yet independently governed, allowing them to provide objective challenge and support to drive investment excellence. They collaborate closely with portfolio managers, product specialists, and investment professionals across equities, multi-asset, and fixed income to enhance their research capabilities, tools and decision-support platforms. Their function spans model development, investment tool design, portfolio construction advisory and optimiser/model validation. They blend forward-looking analytics with historical performance assessment to help ensure appropriate outcomes for clients, raising standards across the firm’s investment capabilities. Their key stakeholders include portfolio managers, broader investment teams, client groups, product specialists, marketing and senior management, as well as some of the world’s largest asset owners who work with the company for customised investment solutions.
JOB DESCRIPTION WILL INCLUDE BUT NOT BE LIMITED TO:
- You will be required to provide independent second line of defence (2LoD) oversight of private credit strategies, including the review and challenge of transactions, portfolio exposures, concentrations and downside risks;
- You will be required to maintain a strong working understanding of private credit markets, deal structures, documentation standards and restructuring considerations;
- You will be required to monitor portfolio-level credit risk indicators, early warning signals and deterioration trends, escalating material concerns through established governance frameworks;
- You will be required to ensure alignment with Luxembourg regulatory requirements (including CSSF expectations) and EU regulations applicable to alternative funds (e.g. AIFMD);
- You will be required to contribute to regulatory risk reporting, board reporting, and internal governance reporting, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and transparency.
- You will be required to oversee liquidity risk, market risk, leverage, credit and counterparty risk across in-scope funds, including monitoring key risk metrics, limit utilisation and concentration profiles and conducting stress testing and scenario analysis to assess resilience under adverse market conditions;
- You will be required to provide independent oversight of ESG risk reporting for the firm (public and private), with a clear understanding of SFDR (articles 6, 8, and 9) classifications and related disclosure requirements across asset classes. Assess the impact of ongoing related regulatory frameworks for the company globally;
- You will be required to oversee portfolio stress testing, scenario analysis and risk dashboards, ensuring data integrity and reporting robustness;
- You will be required to work closely with internal technology teams as a translator of risk and regulatory requirements, supporting data curation, system enhancements and the integration of external data vendors and service providers to ensure robust, scalable reporting and oversight frameworks.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
- You have a relevant degree; CFA, CAIA, or FRM – this is preferred;
- You have a minimum of 7 years current, relevant experience in investment risk in multi-asset or alternative investment strategies within an asset manager, pension fund, or similar environment;
- You have a demonstrable expertise in equity and multi-asset strategies, including factor analysis, asset allocation frameworks, derivatives and risk modelling;
- You have experience engaging directly with portfolio managers and senior stakeholders in a high-performance investment environment;
- You have experience in portfolio construction and quantitative research – this would be a distinct advantage;
- You are proficient with risk and analytics platforms (e.g. Barra, Bloomberg), as well as strong programming skills (Python, R, SQL).
