Our client provides a full range of stockbroking services supported by strong management and administrative capabilities. They pride themselves on product innovation and client service. One of their key strengths is their ability to devise solutions for the individual needs, with all of their expertise at your disposal. They provide a full range of stockbroking solutions including; traditional trade executions (non-discretionary / self-managed portfolio), an advisory portfolio, full service stockbroking service into all of the frontier markets of Sub-Saharan Africa and specialist research integrating both macro and micro market views.

They now seek a portfolio manager to join their investment team. This is a new role. You are strong and capable and could take the CIO role in the medium term. ( or short term )

JOB DESCRIPTION WILL INCLUDE BUT NOT BE LIMITED TO:

  • You will be required to construct and manage the local and international investment portfolios to deliver returns in excess of the client’s expectations, considering mandate risk and return objectives;
  • Management of investment portfolios:
    • You will be required to manage the model investment portfolios based on the respective local and international mandates and their respective risk requirements;
    • You will be required to focus on day-to-day operational portfolio management and monitoring of investments;
    • You will be required to manage and respond to compliance issues;
    • You will be required to monitor multiple portfolios risks and returns;
    • You will be required to maintain a comprehensive understanding of markets, economics, company analysis and valuation;
    • You will be required to review and implement investment recommendations;
    • You will be required to foster effective working relationships and collaborate within the company group (segments, internal and external stakeholders);
    • You will be required to monitor the application of the performance measurement of funds;
    • You will be required to provide technical advice and expertise regarding the development of new investment products;
    • You will be required to maintain and re-evaluate, as required, the investment and stock selection process;
    • You will be required to contribute to and manage the profitability of the asset management business unit;
    • You will be required to share insights, present investment views and actively participate in the company investment committee;
  • Compliance and monitoring of transactions:
    • You will be required to ensure strict compliance with investment mandates;
    • You will be required to identify areas of concern in operational, trading, and client relationships with the view to enhancing these;
    • You will be required to ensure compliance with business standards, policies and internal controls associated with the role;
  • Client engagement:
    • You will be required to develop a close working relationship with company’ s CIO;
    • You will be required to provide authoritative, expertise and advice to retail portfolio managers and various stakeholders;
    • You will be required to build and maintain relationships with portfolio managers and external stakeholders;
    • You will be required to deliver on service level agreements made with internal and external stakeholders and clients;
    • You will be required to make recommendations to improve client service levels;
    • You will be required to participate and contribute to a culture which builds rewarding relationships, facilitates feedback and provides exceptional client service.

 CORE QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • You have an advanced degree in investments management / finance or B.Sc in economics / mathematics or equivalent;
  • You have a regulatory qualification either under FAIS or JSE to give advice and exercise discretion;
  • You have a CFA / CAIA qualification – this would be a distinct advantage;
  • You have a minimum of 3 years’ current, relevant experience in asset management / portfolio management and ideally in the securities space.
