Our client is a licensed boutique investment and wealth management firm. It was founded around 2020, the company manages listed and unlisted assets for institutional clients such as pension funds, as well as high-net-worth individuals. This business’ combined assets under management (AUM) are approximately ZAR 3.5 billion. The fixed income portfolio currently accounts for approximately ZAR 300 million.
The role will be based in Namibia. Preference is to appoint a Namibian citizen residing in Namibia. The position requires approximately 16 hours per week, comprising two days per week in the office (08:00–13:00) and approximately six additional hours that may be worked remotely.
The successful candidate will work closely with both the Namibian team and colleagues in South Africa where required.
The client would consider relocating the successful candidate.
The equity team is fully established. Within the fixed income function, they currently have a junior portfolio manager and two investment analysts, supported by senior portfolio managers who participate at the Investment Committee (IC) level.
The primary requirement is an experienced investment professional who can provide strategic guidance, coaching and mentorship to a young and developing fixed income team. The remuneration structure will be discussed with suitable candidates.
This opportunity is particularly well suited to an experienced investment professional who is approaching retirement or has recently retired and wishes to remain professionally active on a flexible basis.
It would also appeal to a Namibian returning home from abroad or a South African-based professional looking to relocate to Namibia.

7This is effectively a newly created position. While they have an established investment team, the growth in our mandates has increased capacity requirements and created the need to establish a dedicated fixed income function within the business.
The successful candidate will report administratively to the Chief Executive Officer and functionally to the Investment Committee (IC). They have an active Investment Committee that can be convened whenever a quorum is achieved to support investment decision-making.
JOB DESCRIPTION WILL INCLUDE BUT NOT BE LIMITED TO:
- You will be required to assist in building a best-practice fixed income capability through strategic advice, portfolio oversight, mentoring and the transfer of institutional knowledge. The role is primarily advisory and will be performed virtually.
- You will be required to provide strategic guidance and support in respect of:
- The money market fund – investment strategy, portfolio positioning, liquidity management and credit oversight. South African investments should be limited to South African Reserve Bank, National Treasury and approved commercial bank instruments meeting a minimum Moody’s A3 (or equivalent) long-term credit rating, unless otherwise approved by the Investment Committee;
- The income fund – portfolio construction, duration management, credit allocation and investment strategy;
- The bond plus fund – Participate in the joint Investment Committee with the SA investment partner, providing strategic input and mentoring.
- Future fixed income strategies – assist in the development of new fixed income products and institutional mandates;
- You will be required to develop and document the company’s fixed income investment process, including macroeconomic analysis, yield curve positioning, duration management, credit assessment, portfolio construction, trading and portfolio monitoring;
- You will be required to assist in identifying and evaluating investment opportunities across Namibian and South African fixed income markets;
- You will be required to mentor and coach the fixed income team, initially comprising CFA Level III candidate and an additional junior investment professional;
- You will be required to serve as a member of the investment committee and contribute to investment decisions and governance;
- You will be required to share responsibility with the investment team for the ongoing management and development of the company’s fixed income capability to develop and refine the company’s fixed income capability, subject to the firm’s governance framework and investment committee oversight.
CORE QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
- You are an experienced fixed income portfolio manager with a strong track record who is willing to work in a successful boutique investment business and impart and share knowledge. This is a new role as a result of fund growth.
